Celebrate the 4th with Flowers

Surfing the net I was looking for Fourth of July ideas to share with Tulips Talk readers and I found an excellent article on the Southern Living Magazine website. Here’s an excerpt:

Independence Day stirs the heart with red, white, and blue. While you’re planning for the holiday, include a pot of patriotic posies for your table or set one by your front door. Better yet, jazz up your window boxes with stars-and-stripes colors. There are numerous flower combinations to consider, whether you have sun or shade.

Another article I found on Fourth of July Flowers by Wesley Berry, AAF  begins like this:

Your Fourth of July celebration could begin and end with a real bang when you use flowers to accent and decorate the day. If you’re thinking you need to stick with the traditional red, white, and blue carnation arrangements you normally see on Independence Day, think again! Flowers come in so many varieties and they’re so easy to customize to the occasion that the possibilities are endless.

If you’re planning on throwing a Fourth of July celebration, contact your local florist for help in choosing the perfect floral arrangements and other accents to make your party memorable and your guests feel special. When you decorate with fresh flowers, it shows your guests that you’ve taken the time to think about how you can make the surroundings beautiful and enjoyable for them. Your florist can make doing so easier than you ever thought possible.

For some great Patriotic Desserts, be sure and check out the Martha Stewart site.

Be sure and check out EDEN FLORIST to honor and celebrate the Fourth of JULY with your family and friends.

The Healing Power of Sympathy Flowers

“Just a kind word or a greeting; Just a warm grasp or a smile There are flowers that will lighten The burdens for many a mile. After the journey is over What is the use of them How can they carry them who must be carried? Oh give them the flowers now!”
– Leigh M. Hodges –

"The Healing Power of Flowers"
Flowers lift the “spirit” in so many ways – whether to say Thank You, I Love You, You are Appreciated, Let’s Celebrate or in sympathy, flowers are a source of emotional support for recipients the world over.
According to Candice Shoemaker, PhD (National Funeral Directors Association), “people who receive sympathy flowers prefer them to receiving sympathy cards, food or even memorial donations.” The Society of American Florists and Rutgers University conducted two studies on the emotional impact of flowers. One survey provides scientific proof that flowers increase happiness and life satisfaction and lead to increased contact with friends and family. The other survey showed that “81% of seniors who received weekly bouquets proved less depressed over time.”

Flowers May Help After Surgery

According to a Recent Study, Patients Take Less Pain Medication When Plants and Flowers are Around

Bringing flowers to someone in the hospital has always been considered a nice thing to do, but researchers say the contact with nature may actually help people recover faster.

Researchers from Kansas State University studied 90 people recovering from an appendectomy. The patients were randomly assigned to hospital rooms with or without plants, and researchers checked how long they stayed in the hospital, how much pain medication they needed and other signs of health and satisfaction.

Patients with plants in their rooms used significantly less pain medication and had lower blood pressure and heart rates.

Overall, they were more satisfied with their entire stay.

Ninety-three percent of those who had flowers said it was the best part of the room, and 91 percent of those without flowers said it was the television.

So next time someone you care about is in the hospital, be sure and send flowers! You can visit our website – www.EdenFlorist.com for a nice selection of cheerful arrangments to brighten anyone’s room.

Thanks, Cathie Starkey for sending this to me!

Happy New Year to all.
